Hanni offering Harper a little advice.

Thanks to our friend Jenny Fischer, Harper and I will be signing books from 11:30 am to 2 pm this Saturday, June 18 at Bookfest 2011 in Glen Ellyn, one of Chicago’s western suburbs. Glen Ellyn’s Bookfest 2011is an all-day event for the entire family — lots of authors and activities all over downtown Glen Ellyn, including special events at their Public Library, too.

You might remember my friend Jenny from a post I published here about the independent bookstore she works at – The Bookstore is one of the sponsors of this Saturday’s Bookfest 2011, and that’s where our book signing table will be: The Bookstore, 475 N. Main Street in Glen Ellyn. From the Just the Bookstore blog:

Beth is the author of Hanni and Beth: Safe and Sound, an award-winning book about the love and trust between guide dogs and people who are blind. Beth and her dog Hanni will be at The Bookstore to greet customers and sign copies of her book.

Okay, so it won’t be Hanni doing the signing and greeting in Glen Ellyn — she’s retired from all this book promotion stuff! Harper’s got big paws to fill, but I think he’s up to the challenge. I look forward to showing him off to you all — if you live anywhere near Glen Ellyn please come out and see us anytime between 11:30 am and 2 pm. After that we’re hightailing it to the Glen Ellyn Public Library with Jenny to hear keynote speaker Mary Doria Russell, author of The Sparrow. Glen Ellyn Bookfest 2011 is free and open to the public. For a complete schedule of Bookfest 2011 events throughout Downtown Glen Ellyn this Saturday, link to the Downtown Alliance Website.

Is that really Hanni in the picture? I didn’t think the two of them had ever met.

When did Hanni have a chance to give Harper some advice?

Have fun….

Hi Beth (and Mike and Harper),

I just happen to be in Palatine until Sunday so plan to ride to Glen Ellyn and meet in person tomorrow IF the weather stays friendly.

– Tracie (nephew Brian’s friend from Jeju Island)

Tracie, hope we didn’t miss you there yesterday — Harper and I were at The Bookstore until 2, when we left for the Glen Ellyn Public Library to hear guest speaker Mary Doria Russell. The Bookstore in Glen Ellyn did some good business yesterday and I sold more books than I thought I might, too. More importantly, a librarian from Wood Dale stopped in and asked me a lot of questions about the presentations I do at libraries, she took notes and copied my web site address and all –with any luck I’ll be asked to do an event at Wood Dale Library this Fall.
VERY best of all, though, was being with old friends again. A few buddies showed up at the signing and I also enjoyed a lot of quality time with Jenny and her sister Jill and their extended family. Sorry we missed you, Tracie — maybe you can come see us in Wood Dale if that works out!

Hi Beth,

Sorry, it was I who missed you. I was visiting with a friend’s 83-year-old Mom and ended up doing some heavy work in the garden so she wouldn’t have to do it. I left Chicago yesterday and am in Twin Cities today, then up in North Dakota at the weekend (I’m motorcycling the western states for a few months before going back to Korea again).
Sorry I missed you, but glad you had a great time
