A New York state of mind

Greetings from New York City! I’m speaking at some elementary schools in Lindenhurst on Long Island tomorrow and Friday, but Whitney, Mike and I flew in yesterday to spend a couple days in Manhattan first.

We booked a hotel room two doors down from our dear friends Benita and Henry on the Upper West Side, and after enjoying cocktails at their place last night, we all walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner (with live piano music, oo la la.) We made it back to the hotel before the weather turned, but when we woke up this morning, it was snowing.

Photo of snowy NY.

The view from our hotel entrance on 81st Street. On the other side of the street, a dog park is beckoning Whitney.

It still is. Snowing, I mean.

We’d had ideas about taking a long leisurely walk through Central Park today and meeting up with my nephew Michael Hornburg (he lives in Brooklyn) for a book sale in a nearby library. But, alas. The snow is wet (feels like you’re walking through snow soup), Central Park sidewalks are sloppy, and the library book sale is cancelled.

Eyebrows up! There’s a dog park across the street….

I’m so happy that you, Mine, and Whitney are enjoying your visit to NYC! Nothing slows you down, Beth. Not even snow soup! We can’t wait to see you in Lindenhurst tomorrow!!! Be safe, my friend. ☃️

At least it looks lovely in the photo. I remember passing that dog park last May, it’s next to the American Museum of Natural History and Planetarium. Good Luck on Long Island.

Well! I hope you voted before you left. I just re-read your chapter (Reading Out Loud) on your experiences in the voting booth. Have a great time in the “Big Apple.”

Hmmm. At first I thought you must be at the Hotel Lucerne, but that is on 79th. (My first studio was in it’s rat-infested basement (then an apt. building) What is on 81st? Too bad about the snow. You can always go to the Museum of Natural History or cross the part and go to the Met. Enjoy. Lois

Thanks to all for your positive comments and well wishes. Lindenhurst schools were closed today so Mike Whitney and I stayed in New York City. Snow melted and we had a good Chinese lunch and walk through Central Park. Excellent! I’m dictating this comment from a 230 train to Lindenhurst.: doing a book club presentation tonight, they read writing out loud. schools are open tomorrow and we have a full day there. If they panel, rest to assured we did vote before we left Tuesday morning. Brad you are exactly right that’s where the dog park is . Lois, we are staying or I should stay we were staying at the Excelsior Hotel on 81st
