Ali and Joe.

Loyal Safe & Sound blog readers will likely remember the guest post 23-year-old Alicia Krage wrote last April about some of the challenges and joys of being — and dating — someone who’s blind. Ali’s boyfriend Joe is a junior at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, and Ali transferred there from her local community college this semester. She generously gave me permission to share her latest email update with you readers –enjoy!

Hi there Beth

I just wanted to share some news with you. Joe and I are going to the movies today to see The Girl on the Train. It’s my first time going with another blind person. We called this past week to make sure they had audio description, which they do. We will call later today to let them know we are coming and will need assistance.

I just wanted to share that cool little story with you. Being here in DeKalb (and being with Joe, of course) has made me feel like a more confident person. I love it.

I wanted to update you on how it went.
We arrived at the theater and the manager was already waiting for us. He helped us get our tickets, popcorn, descriptive audio headsets, and seats. It worked well, and he was there waiting for us when the movie and done to escort us back to the entrance.
